This project, administered by the Illinois Capital Development Board, included paving and drainage renovations at the main entrance to Parkland College. The plans called for storm sewers, gutters and downspouts, sidewalks, retaining walls, and landscaping. Restoration work included stone retaining walls, sidewalks and providing handicap accessibility to areas previously not accessible to the handicapped. S&A produced plans, specifications, and bidding documents. Construction observation also was performed. S&A also assisted the Parkland College staff in preparing the "Build Illinois" grant application.
Designing and building 12 blocks of improvements in the downtown area was the focus of this project. Improvements included: sidewalks with paved edging, curbs and gutters, ornamental lighting, landscaping, vault infill/support, street furniture, two plazas, sidewalk seating area, various pedestrian amenities. Engineering duties in the bidding phase included: preparing bid documents, bid document review, preparing construction cost estimates, preparing preliminary construction schedule, contractor pre-qualification, pre-award meeting, reporting to city council, pre-construction meeting.
