WATER SYSTEMS

Water Improvement Design/Construction, Rantoul

This project involved constructing improvements to the municipal water treatment plant, installation of water mains, and replacement of water well pumps. S&A's professional services included design, bidding, and construction phase services. The project was divided into three phases: (1) raw water main and well improvements; (2) distribution system improvements; and (3) treatment plant expansion. The Economic Development Administration provided 75% of the funding on this project.

Kickapoo State Park Water System Rehabilitation, Danville

Plans and specifications were prepared for the connection of Kickapoo State Park to Interstate Water of Danville. Rehabilitated the existing water distribution system throughout the entire park including service areas. Contingencies also were made for proposed day-use activities, campgrounds, and lodge. The existing water system and pump house required partial demolition. The water main crossed I-74. Obtained permit from the Illinois Department of Transportation to mount a water main on an I-74 bridge structure. Prepared plans, specifications, and bidding documents.

Water System Facility Plan, Gifford

The purpose of this project was to evaluate all major components of the village's water system including: (1) the water supply wells; (2) the treatment facilities; (3) the distribution system, and (4) the system storage facilities. To accomplish this evaluation, the following basic tasks were performed.

General: Estimated Gifford's population growth projections; evaluated the present and future water supply needs of Gifford, determined the capacity requirements for each major component of the system. Water Supply & Wells: Gathered existing information from the Illinois Water Survey, the IEPA, and the Village records; evaluated the capacity of the acquifer from which water is drawn; evaluated the capacity and condition of the existing wells. Treatment Facilities: Evaluated the capacity and condition of the existing treatment facilities; identified alternatives to correct any deficiencies; estimated costs and evaluated alternatives. Distribution System: Evaluated and assessed adequacy of existing system; identified areas requiring improvements; estimated costs of improvements. Report and Recommendations: Summarized findings; identified potential financing methods; presented recommendations and implementation schedule; presented written report.

Water Distribution System Modeling, University of Illinois

Provided assistance in the selection of computer software to accomplish the goals of modeling the UIUC campus water distribution system; provided an operational computer modeling system for analyzing the water distribution system on the UIUC campus; provided training for the operation and maintenance engineering personnel in the operation of the computer modeling system; provided operations and maintenance personnel with the format in which the data is required for computer input; provided data entry service, calibrated the computer model and utilized actual field data to ensure that the computer model accurately reflects actual working conditions of UIUC campus' water distribution system; analyzed the water distribution system by fire flow simulation to determine the effect of removing the elevated tank from the distribution system; made recommendations as to whether the elevated tank can be taken offline on a permanent basis; provided a report outlining recommended distribution system improvements based on the analysis of the computer model.
